Tracking the Argonauts in chasing the Golden Fleece

Day I:
Arrival in Tbilisi. Metting at the Tbilisi international airport with a sign of “Iber-Tour”. Transfer to the hotel.

Day II:
The citybreak tour offers you the sightseeing of Tbilisi, visiting the historic and architectural monuments, describing the 1500 year-old history of the city. Ancient districts are remarkable with ornamented houses with balconies, narrow streets and diversified architectural style. Here, You can meet the temples of 6 different religious confessions, neighbouring each other.
You can visit the following sights during the city-break tour:

  • The Sameba cathedral (the monastery complex, with the main large – scale dome church of 97 meters high);
  • The Metekhi Church (dated with the XIII century, from which you can enjoy the great view over the ancient districts of Tbilisi);
  • Abanotubani and the Mosque (in this part of the city, there are sulfur baths; this was where the legend about founding Tbilisi was born);
  • The Narikala Fortress (medieval castle, erected on the beautiful hill, creates the composition of the most beautiful city view);
  • The top of the Sololaki mountain, “The Mother of Georgia”;
  • Zoroaster (fire worshiping) temple, named “Ateshga”;
  • Bethlehem churches of the “Kldisubani” (rocky area);
  • Synagogue;
  • Meidani and the Armenian Church;

Lunch;

  • Art Saloons, workshops, exhibitions, etc;
  • The Sioni Cathedral (XII century dome church);
  • Walking along the riverside, across the “Bridge of Peace” (the contemporary architectural model, presented in the combination of the ancient town);
  • The King’s Square;
  • The Anchiskhati Church (one of the most ancient Christian buildings in Georgia, dated with VI Century);
  • Theatre of Marionettes;
  • The Art museum of Georgia (The Gold Fund, where exhibits of different period are represented; among them is the gilded Lord’s icon not of human making).

Back to the hotel in Tbilisi. Dinner and Overnight stay.

Day III:
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure to the ancient, historic capital of Georgia – Mtskheta, which is included into the list of UNESCO World Culture Heritages.
You can visit the following sights during the tour:

  • The Jvari Monastery (VI Century architecturally refined temple, matching the surrounding nature. From here the great panoramic view opens over the river gorge of the Mtkvari and the town of Mtkheta).
  • The Armazi Castle (the ancient settlement, the oldest layers of which are dated back to the IV – III centuries B. C. There are the Romanian baths and the church, belonging to the antique period, there stood the pagan idol, with the residential halls, ancient cellar and the რუინს of other buildings)
  • Svetitskhoveli (the great complex of the cross dome church, where the greatest sacred objects for the whole Christian world are buried – the Lord’s tunic and the cloak of the profit Eliah).

Lunch and departure to Kutaisi, arrival to Kutaisi.

  • Bagrati (the XI century large – scale church, which is currently damaged; this church is included into the list of UNESCO World Culture Heritages);

Dinner and Overnight stay.

Day IV:
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure to the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.
Arrival to Zugdidi; Lunch
You can visit the following sights during the tour:

  • The residential museum of the Dadianis Dynasty (the XIX century Palace rich in the museum fund, located in the town of Zugdidi; the Robe of Virgin Mary and one of the three masks belonging to Napoleon are exhibited here);
  • Departure towards Mestia (the distance of 140 km.); the road winds along     the most beautiful river gorge of Enguri.

Arrival in Mestia. Lunch at the local guesthouse; Walking tour the surrounding of the Mestia region.
Visiting the Mestia museum:

  • The Svaneti Towers (architectural buildings, characteristic to particularly to this region; there are dozens of such towers in the villages; looking down from Mestia, you can get the best view one of the highest mountain tops – Ushba);
  • Christian churches (some of the churches in Mestia, Lenjeri and Latali were painted not only form inside, but from outside as well);
  • The museum of Mestia (exposition here is rich in ethnographic material, characteristic for the Svanetian customs and habits, ancient manuscripts, religious and secular objects).

Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day V:
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure towards Ushguli (the distance of 42 km.), through the Svaneti villages. On the way to Ushguli, visiting towers and churches.
The rout keeps through the river gorge of Mulkhura over the pass leading to the source of the river Enguri.
Arrival to Ushguli. Lunch;
You can visit the following sights during the tour:

  • The community of Ushguli (included into the list of the UNESCO World Culture Heritages) consists of three villages, where there are dozens of Svanetian towers and residential houses; Ushguli is located at the 2200 m. high above the sea and is considered as the highest permanently inhabited areas of Georgia;
  • The village Chazhashi museum (ethnog-raphic exposition material describing the local customs and habits);
  • The Lamaria complex (the complex, consisting of the separately standing tower, church and a small fence. From here, the highest mountain top of Georgia, called Shkhara is visible, opening the most beautiful panoramic view against the landscape of Svaneti towers);

Back to the hotel in Mestia. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day VI:
Breakfast at the hotel.
The tour starts early morning, visiting the snowy area, where ice never melts.
You can visit the following sights during the tour:

  • Chaladi (you will see how rivers are born from icy mountains flanks, throughout the year);

Departure towards the Black Sea coast and the town of Batumi.
Lunch break on the way.
Arrival to Batumi. Walking tour, visiting the sights of the city including the Boulevard.
During the tour you will experience the rout from snowy mountains directly to the hot coast of the Black Sea.
Dinner and overnight stay in Batumi.

Day VII:
Breakfast at the hotel.
The Kolkheti National Park. The Lake of Paliastomi;
Visiting the Kolkheti National Park. You can discover the local unique flora and fauna; Boating is also possible on the Paliastomi Lake.
Picnic in the open air;
Back to Batumi; Dinner and overnight stay.

Day VIII:
Breakfast at the hotel.
Leaving for Tbilisi. Visiting the Prometheus’ Cave on the way, near the town of Kutaisi.
Lunch;

  • Prometheus’ cave (karstic underground formations on the surface are represented as a unity of complex here, with the most beautiful rivers and diversified natural landscapes of the local underground world);

Tbilisi, free time; dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day IX:
Transfer to the Tbilisi International Airport.
